Rest, Restore, Return
Rest
In the account of creation in Genesis we find God creating, working for 6 days. Then we see on the 7th day he rested. He established the first Sabbath. However scripture also tells us that God never grows tired and doesn’t sleep. So the REST we need is so much more than sleep. In Saundra Dalton Smith’s book Sacred Rest, she addresses the following 7 places of rest:
Physical: Sleep, relaxing, leisure walks, stretching
Mental: Mind able to get to a quiet place. Taking every thought captive.
Emotional: Are you are able to be authentic about how you feel?
Spiritual: Meditation, being quiet before the Lord, reflection, cultivate thankfulness
Social: Be with people who pour back into you
Sensory: Sensory overload leads to anxiety. Be intentional about managing sensory inputs
Creative: Beauty, creation, symphony, what is beautiful to you? Being in nature activates healthy chemical activity in the brain.
Are you working out of a place of rest? Or are you working out of exhaustion, emptiness? When we learn the rest the Lord has designed us for we will be able to work out of abundance. This REST leads to Restoration.
